Since 1923 the French town of Le Mans has been hosting the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Considered on of the most prestigious car races in the world, teams push their cars to the limit, running them for 24 hours straight without sustaining any mechanical damage. Each driver can only complete 2 hour shifts of driving at a time. Three drivers share the one vehicle in a delicate balance of managing speed, time and consumables.

Of course such a pursuit would inspire some great design and the annual programmes and posters make for a great visual archive of the history of the race. Featured below is a selection of programme covers from the decade of the 1970s.
